Word & Character Counter
Count words, characters, sentences and reading time — live as you type.
Count words, characters, sentences and reading time — live as you type.
This word counter updates every figure the moment you type or paste, so you can keep an essay, tweet, meta description or product listing inside a limit without guessing. Everything runs in your browser, so even long documents stay private.
Words are counted by splitting the text on spaces and line breaks. Characters are counted two ways — including and excluding spaces — because some limits (like database fields) ignore whitespace while others (like SMS) don't.
Sentences are detected by terminal punctuation (a period, question mark or exclamation mark), and paragraphs by blank lines between blocks of text. Reading time assumes roughly 200 words per minute, a common average for adult readers.
All counting happens locally; no text is uploaded or stored. Figures are estimates meant for quick checks against length limits.
